Home in Saint Michaels, Tenterden
Romantic Countryside Cottage near Kent Vineyards and Gardens
Please note that we are deep cleaning between guests, using antibacterial products.
The barn, is in the grounds of our 15th century house but nicely private. It’s decorated in modern rustic style, with underfloor heating and a wood burner. Outside is a fire pit for toasting marshmallows and stargazing before climbing into the king-size bed, dressed with soft Egyptian cotton. There's a large walk-in rain shower and robes. There are books to read, DVDs to watch, board games to play. Tear yourself away to explore the stunning local countryside - with walks from the doorstep and forests nearby.
Our holiday let is set in the grounds of our 15th century house, yet it is not overlooked. It has recently been refurbished (March 2017) and we have tried to make it the kind of place we like to stay in ourselves.
The large, light-filled, open plan living/kitchen/dining area has floor to ceiling bi-fold doors opening out onto its own garden. Sit outside - choose from the table and chairs or the big double sun lounger - and listen to the birdsong or go for a stroll in the meadow. By night you can enjoy a starry sky by the light of the fire pit, which also has a grill for BBQ - or marshmallow toasting!
The decor inside is 'country cool' - luxuriously comfortable and with nods to the area's heritage as 'The Garden of England', including vintage apple crates used as kitchen shelves and a framed photo of workers in a local hop field in the 1940s. In fact our house next door was, until recently, the farmhouse for the surrounding hop farm which still operates in the traditional way - one of the last remaining in Kent!
There's a bedroom with king sized bed and garden views. The bed linen is 600 thread count finest Egyptian cotton, the duvets and pillows goose down. There's a Moroccan style shower room.
Things are kept cosy with underfloor heating and fluffy rugs, a woodburner, soft bathrobes and slippers.
Board games, books and DVDs will keep you busy plus there's free WiFi and a large flatscreen TV with freeview.
The kitchen has all the essential equipment - whether you want to cook up a feast or simply prepare snacks to sustain you in between visiting the many excellent restaurants in the area.
We provide a welcome hamper including milk, bread, butter and eggs plus a bottle of local wine to kick off your stay. You will find olive oil, salt, pepper, dried herbs and spices, tea, coffee and sugar. There's washing up liquid, dishwasher tabs, cloths and cleaning products and, in the bathroom, heavenly Aromatherapy Associates body wash, shampoo and conditioner.
We also provide logs for the woodburner and for the firepit. End of stay cleaning is included.
John is a rehabilitation specialist and also teaches Nordic Walking and Pilates. So let us know when you are booking if you are interested in knowing more. We can offer private 'Learn to Nordic Walk' stays - a lovely safe way to exercise, to discover the local countryside and learn a skill that you can use when you return home - visit www.nordicwalkingkent.co.uk if you'd like to read about this increasingly popular activity. Likewise, if you have a niggling problem with your back, knee, shoulder...whatever!...speak to us about having private rehabilitation or remedial massage in the studio, which is right next to the holiday let. One-to-one and two-to-one Pilates can also be taught here.
Alternatively, book a whole weekend or week long 'overhaul', with several hours of mixed exercise and advice on diet and lifestyle. It's all possible...Let us know what you want and we can tailor something to fit.

The holiday let is in the grounds of our house and we share a driveway and parking area.
We own a large meadow - which guests can access directly from the garden of the holiday let. We let the grass grow long in the spring and summer to encourage wildlife and cut paths through it for walking.
There is good walking in the surrounding area, too - it's a leisurely half hour walk to Biddenden Vineyard or you can walk across the fields to our local town, Tenterden, for example. We provide an ordnance survey map so guests can explore.
We will always try to welcome guests personally. Otherwise there is a key safe. We live next door so we are always there if needed but we respect guests' privacy and prefer not to disturb them unless they want us to!
