When our visitors arrive at the Sanctuary, the first thing we will do is make a small introduction about our family project, we are guardians of 48 hectares of forest since 1999. During the walk to the plantation, we will talk about the history of coffee in the world and Costa Rica, and then explain on the plantation what permaculture consists of and sustainable farming versus monocultures. Also, learning about specialty coffee and the different ways of processing and finish with a visit to the drying area. On the way back you will have a coffee tasting in three different roasts and methods and each participant will learn how to prepare their own coffee in the proper way. Experience Beach Yoga & Meditation
You will begin with slow yoga poses that warm up and stretch the body. We build the class into a dynamic flow infused with mindfulness, breathwork, and optional advanced postures. The class always ends with a soothing savasana and a grounding meditation. You will meet Virginia (or Emily) on the beach in front of El Be! Club. El Be is closed on the street side in the mornings, please walk to an Alameda #7 sign to guide you past a restaurant called Waffle Monkey, and you'll see the class setting up in between Portofino & The Ocean restaurants. We practice yoga on a flat, shaded space on the beach. We always have enough yoga mats (and some extras) and individual brooms for you during class. Cooking with a Costa Rican Family
After booking our experiences, you will arrive at our kitchen where you will be very welcome and where you will share a good time with an authentic Costa Rican family. After introducing ourselves and getting to know each other over a refreshing drink, we will take you on a tour of our organic garden, where you will learn about the different crops and aromatic plants, followed by picking some of the ingredients that we will use for the preparation of our dish. When we return to the kitchen we will prepare a refreshing mojito to proceed to prepare a typical dish with fresh ingredients, produced by us and our neighbors. At the end of the preparation of the dish, we will consume everything prepared in a family atmosphere. If you come with more time than agreed there is a good chance to observe some animals such as frogs, birds and sloth that live in our garden.
Go birdwatching with a licensed guide
We'll start birdwatching at 6:00 AM, where we'll see about 30 different species of birds at an elevation of about 4,500 feet above sea level. Then we'll stop at a cafeteria, where we will have a chance to check some bird feeders as we enjoy a great cup of Costa Rican coffee. After that, we'll move up to Curicancha Reserve where we'll walk through two different life zones including different types of forests (secondary, transitional and primary) plus open areas where we'll be able to see much more variety of birds or Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve to be at a different elevation—about 5,000 feet above sea level—where we'll see much more interesting birds, including the resplendent quetzal, guans, barbets, three-wattled bellbirds, tinamous, and so many others. Snorkel Sailing Sunset Adventure
Departing from the beach in Tamarindo at 1:30 pm you will enjoy a four and one half hour (4 1/2) hour sail along Costa Rica's spectacular coastline in one of the purpose built catamarans found within the Marlin del Rey Sailing Tours fleet - the 66 foot Marlin del Rey, the 65 foot New Marlin or the 65 foot Marlin Tres.  All are open and spacious which allows our passengers to comfortably enjoy the blue water views of the glorious Costa Rican coastline with its pristine beaches and verdant jungles from the bow trampolines, lounge on the roof deck, man the wheel with the captain or relax, one of the oversized tables found in the shaded area of the main salon and ultimately experience one of the brilliant Costa Rican sunsets. Hike to Rio Fortuna Waterfall, Arenal Volcano and Hot Springs
We will meet the guide at the Sloth Watching Trail at 8:00 am, or at your hotel if it is near La Fortuna. (please indicate that you require transportation) First we go to the majestic La Fortuna Waterfall, which is 230 feet high; where if the weather allows it, we will bathe in its crystal clear waters. (if it rains a lot it won't be possible) We will be around an hour and a half in this place; then we will take the minibus to go to the next point and one of the most spectacular, the walk in the tropical forest to the base of the Arenal Volcano, where we will visit the lava flows of the years 1525, 1968 and 2010; Also while we enjoy this beautiful ecological park we will learn about the trees and animals that inhabit this place. (Approximately two hours to the base of the volcano and one hour to the green lagoon). After the descent we will enjoy a bath in the green lagoon of totally clean water and of volcanic formation. Once we have enjoyed it, we will have a traditional lunch. To finish we return to the bus to go to the natural river of hot springs (Rio Tabacón), where we will enjoy a majestic place, we will also put on a volcanic mud mask. For after a great day of adventure and experience, return to La Fortuna around 4 pm.
Arenal Volcano Ecological Park with Hot Springs
Auto guided tour! Discovering the trails of the park through a secondary forest until you reach the Lava laundry that dates back to 2010 at the foot of the Arenal Volcano is only the beginning of the adventure in this place, where we will walk, sail, take a jumping rope and end with hot springs. When you get to the park, you can use restrooms and lockers to start the hike on the 4km trails to the foot of the volcano where taking photos in the incredible spots is part of the trip. Trails end up on the lakeshore where there are hammocks and ropes to jump into the lake. After trying this fun experience, we can head to the pier where we will choose between a kayak or paddle board to navigate the lagoon and connect with the forest oxygen. Our tired muscles from the hike and sail will be able to recover in the thermal bath where we will relax for the rest of the day until the end. This experience takes place inside a private estate through conservation areas, surrounded by primary and secondary forest, giving visitors the opportunity to enjoy excellent panoramic views of the Arenal Volcano and the rain forest. This tour is recommended for adults and children over 10 years old. With our healthy and well trained horses we will start this incredible experience, from the stable and for 3 hours through the trails in the rainforest enjoying beautiful views. Kayak in bioluminescent waters
This kayak experience is not to be missed. What appears to be normal dark water, will light up WHEN YOU TOUCH IT. As the night grows dark, we'll step into our comfortable kayaks and get ready for a personal encounter with this remarkable phenomenon. We will lead you to the best spots, where sparkling algae accumulates. For a full hour, you will be enchanted by how every stroke of your paddle leaves behind a swirl of light, and fish light up their path like shooting stars in the water. The more YOU splash the water the more bioluminescent light you will experience. You are in command, the algae will NOT glow on its own, you have to ACTIVATE it with YOUR hands or the paddle. Come a bit early to enjoy the beautiful sunset over the bay and a nice cup of Costa Rican coffee, juice, and some snacks. You'll get a briefing, a suitable life jacket, before we go to the launch area for the kayaks. It will be like going on a cozy family tour, as the maximum group size is 10 people.
