Wat Ban Den Complex and Sticky Waterfalls
I will pick you up at your hotel or guesthouse unless you would like to meet at the meeting point where you can grab breakfast and coffee. Then, I'll get you comfortable and we’ll head North for 1 hour to Mae Tang to visit Wat Ban Den. One of the regions largest and most beautiful temple complexes. After about an hour there, we'll then drive 20 minutes to Sticky Waterfalls where we'll have lunch and relax before you walk over to the falls. There you can refresh yourself in its cooling waters, sun and shaded areas. You can climb up the several sections freestyle or use the ropes provided to help you along. The rich calcium deposits allow your hands and feet to grip the rocks easily and allow you to climb up the falls with ease. You can also take a short beautiful trail to a natural spring, which has a fascinating legend behind it that I will tell you about. After about 90 minutes, we'll head back to Chiang Mai. Note. If we have time, you can also visit the cave temple nearby. Let me know during the trip. Other things to note Leave early to give yourself enough time for rush hour traffic. 15 minutes late is the cut off, so we don't cut into the other guests time. Follow a Monk's Trail to the Sunrise
Start your day with a sacred journey! We’ll walk in the same trail where monks and Buddhists did decades ago and it shows how tough and dedicated they are passing 2 temples Wat Pha Lat (왓파랏) and Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep (왓 프라탓 도이수텝) the majestic temple that contains Buddha relics. Don’t worry about walking down as transportation will be provided. 5:30~5:45 AM meet me at the foothill. Getting to the meeting point in the early morning the easy way is use a Grab Car or I can help arrange transportation. The trail split into 2 parts. The first, started in the dark and it is a 35 mins pleasant walk. We may meet a monk who walks down from their monastery. Then, we’ll reach a first temple Wat Pha Lat a beautiful hidden gem in the middle of the forest. It’s a time for a break, learning a Buddhism story and enjoy a serene sunrise. After that, a real hike begins! Second part is a much more challenge, 55 mins hike mostly uphill. We'll see a small waterfall and a different personal side of Chiang Mai. At the end of the trail 1000m height above sea level, We'll reach the main road near Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep temple. There will be free time for you to explore the area on your own. I'll stay outside and arrange transportation to get us down and drop you at Nimman Rd. or CMU. Chiang Mai Northern Food Tour by Truck
Get your taste buds ready because there is nothing quite like Northern Thai cuisine. I limit my daily small-group street food tour to just 8 exclusive guests. We’ll bounce between 5-6 different spots into the city to try more than 15 different tastings from street stalls to fresh markets. We’ll delve into the history and eating culture, diving into a plate of braised pork in five spices at a vendor once visited by Anthony Bourdain. Then we'll move around in our own private songthaew truck, visiting one of the best food markets in the country. Here we’ll eat and learn about the different ingredients that go into making the Thai dishes. You simply can’t visit Northern Thailand within trying the herby larb, sticky gaeng hang lay curry and sai oua sausage. Nor can you skip the tea and tamarind leaf salads brought in during the 2 centuries of Burmese rule We’ll also visit Chiang Mai’s Chinatown where you’ll try herby nam ngiaw noodles and other local snacks. Come join me on a fascinating food tour! (Sorry, this tour is not suitable for those that don't eat pork, or vegetarians and pescatarians, as you'll have to miss several dishes, with no alternatives available. A gluten intolerance is ok only if soy sauce can be consumed. Shrimp paste makes its way into many dishes, so shellfish allergies may be a problem. For any food allergies, please message us before booking)
Tour the Colorful Chiang Rai Temples
The main attraction of this tour is the White Temple. If you’re looking for ancient ruins, you might be surprised to find a modern architectural masterpiece designed and built by local artist Chaloemchai Khositphiphat. The Blue Temple or Wat Rong Seua Ten literally translates to ‘temple of the dancing tiger.’ It was built on a site where tigers were said to have jumped over the river. If the White Temple was meant to be a stairway to heaven, the Black House has been called a “dark, mysterious, and almost sadistic” representation of hell, complete with preserved animals and a collection of bones. Built by Thailand national artist Thawan Duchanee (who incidentally was the mentor of Chaloemchai, the White Temple guy), the Baan dam Museum (Black House) is a cluster of nearly 40 small shadowy structures exhibiting art dating back to the Ayutthaya period. This is truly something the likes of which we’ll never see anywhere else! Other things to note IMPORTANT: IF AVAILABLE, PLEASE PROVIDE YOUR HOTEL NAME AND ADDRESS BEFORE COMPLETING THE PAYMENT. Free pick-up from central city of Chiang Mai and the surrounding areas of the Old City Wall in Chiang Mai Provincel. Otherwise, the designated meeting point is the Thapae Gate in Chiang Mai Old City.
