Your guide to Cyberjaya
All About Cyberjaya
Known as the Silicon Valley of Malaysia, Cyberjaya — just south of Kuala Lumpur — is the country’s biggest tech hub. Home to thousands of start-ups and tech giants, Cyberjaya has welcomed professionals from all over the world. The cultural diversity the tech boom has fostered has another side benefit: restaurants serving food from around the world, complementing Malaysia’s own wide-ranging cuisine.
You’ll find several recreational centers around town that offer excellent food and drink options, wellness classes and activities, and opportunities for spending time outdoors. Visitors can spend a few hours go-karting, playing paintball, ice skating, or wakeboarding on the local lake. The Lake Gardens provide an urban oasis where you can get a breath of fresh air and have a picnic as you wander along the boardwalk that marks the perimeter of an artificial lake. Cyberjaya is also an ideal base for exploring Malaysia’s capital city, just a 30-minute drive away.
When is the best time to stay in a vacation rental in Cyberjaya?
Located near the equator, Cyberjaya’s weather is hot for a good portion of the year. The months of May, June, and July are the best time to visit, as the weather is dry and temperatures typically hover between warm and mildly hot, allowing for outdoor fun and recreation. The wet season begins in August and lasts through the early fall months, when temperatures do rise but rarely hit extremes. The region cools somewhat from December through February, but the dry air often remains. In January, the annual festival of Thaipusam in Kuala Lumpur begins with a procession from Kuala Lumpur’s city center. Once March arrives, the dry air clears and the wet season returns to the area once more.
What are the top things to do in Cyberjaya?
Cyberjaya Lake Gardens
Established in 2007, this serene 400-acre garden is popular with both locals and visitors, and is filled with lovely, shady areas that are perfect for picnics. The Lake Garden visitor information center also has a cafe and shops. If you enjoy sports, you’ll also find a golf driving range and a track around the lake for walking, jogging, and biking.
Tamarind Square
An urban village built as part of Cyberjaya’s effort to become the Silicon Valley of Malaysia, Tamarind Square is created to entertain students and professionals who work in the surrounding areas. The square houses arts and culture projects, special events, shops, and cafés. The bookstore is even open 24 hours.
Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia
Located just south of central Kuala Lumpur, around 45 minutes from Cyberjaya, the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia features a wide-ranging permanent collection of artwork and ceramics from across Asia and the Middle East. The museum’s gleaming white walls and aquamarine tiles, capped by a spacious dome, make an ornate frame for intricately woven textiles, glittering coins, and traditional jewelry, along with detailed models of buildings significant to Islam and its history.
