A honest walk through the hotspots
Honesty is the key focus of this walk and, to stay on-brand, from one side, you could say this is a walk like so many others: the same historical buildings, the same main sights and the same worn off areas in town. As far as what it encompasses alone, it is probably no different from a guide book or any other walk offered in town.
Yet, I do things a little differently here. I prefer honesty, so I take these regular buildings and I deconstruct their historical “grand narrative” to present them in a way that’s more grounded and sincere, which also allows me to include elements that are left out more often than not because they do not fit most narratives—so ideas like the participation of the working class, women, race and identity in the making of the region’s history (and, by extension, architecture) are huge concerns. Not focused on archeologically reconstructing the past, but more so interested in providing a general knowledge of the city’s history and background from a renovated perspective that makes use of the city’s visible historical artifacts. All of this combined with my own thorough academic investigation on these subjects.
Paddleboard in Albufeira - Caves & Cliffs
The tour starts at the beach with a quick lesson for everyone and once we're all geared up we'll hit the water and start practicing on our paddling skills. It doesnt matter if you're standing up, kneeling or sitting down, but as long as everybody's having fun and paddling comfortably, we'll start the tour and we'll explore the coast, its secret beaches and some awesome caves we have around here.
7 Hanging Valleys Hike & Sunset
Stunning Views, caves and a sunset awaits you on the Algarves southern coast. The Seven Hanging Valleys Trail is arguably the most stunning stretch of the southern Algarves coastline and following it allows us to see unique views of this awesome coastal landscape. We'll take our time, walking the trail one way from Vale Centianes Beach to a sunset tapas style dinner at Praia da Marinha. Along the way you'll see some of the most amazing natural sea stacks, sinkholes, complex limestone caves and a mix of turquoise ocean and warm-coloured cliffs. We'll have the opportunity to stop off and explore more areas in more detail depending on conditions. We have experience in this area and can show you spots you'd likewise miss out on seeing! Our last destination, and the spot for our sunset (homemade) dinner will be at Praia da Marinha. Marinha is considered one of the most iconic beaches in the Algarve. It's considered by the Michelin Guide as one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in Europe and as one of the 100 most beautiful beaches in the world. Feel free to swim while we prepare the dinner! From here we will drive you back to Lagos. Other things to note Please let us know if you have any dietary requirements, any injuries etc. We will be able to cater to your needs, we just need to know in advance to make the necessary changes.
Birdwatching in Ria Formosa
We will take a 3 hour walk, roughly 4 km, through the unspoiled wetlands of the Natural Park of Ria Formosa and discover the residents and migratory birds that find the perfect conditions to live in this Ramsar Site. This Natural Park has also a rich flora with some endemic plants, as well as a big diversity of dragonflies, butterflies, reptiles, mammals, molluscs and crustaceans. Other things to note Have breakfast before the activity The pickup and drop-off at the client accommodation, is included in Olhão and Faro area. Meeting point in the train station is only for who is staying anywhere else
Authenticity at walking distance
This is the walk that’s going to bring you closer to Olhão’s most authentic aspect.

A walk that’s the result of the funny marriage between emotional aspects—as you’d expect from a local—and my personal academic research in local history, culture and (as important) architecture. A walk that, hence, has been designed to be equal parts laid-back history lesson and casual conversation with a local about the way this town came to be. Not focused on reconstructing the past before your eyes but more so interested in walking through Olhão’s unmistakable built landscape to understand the way locals have used architecture to respond to the town’s specific history, culture and climate, granting you the exclusive chance of going through the town’s general history with a fresh and renovated perspective that focuses entirely on its iconic, subversive, against-all-odds and make-do identify rather than trying to make it fit to the general history of European cities. All presented through an insightful lens shaped by my own thorough academic investigation on these subjects—in case my localness, humor and very passionate storytelling all fail to impress you.
