CHOCOLATE, VANILLA & COFFEE FARM TOUR
Aloha and Welcome as we gather around the information table at Sharkey's 100-year old farmhouse in the historic plantation village of Papaikou. Sample our freshly brewed 100% Hawaiian coffee or cacao tea, grown right here on the farm. From there we begin an easy walk through our orchards where you'll learn about Hawaiian coffee growth and production. Interwoven the coffee are rows of cacao trees. Depending on the time of year, you can usually see tiny flowers and large, multi-colored pods hanging from trunks and branches. Long, heavy vanilla vines grow up the cacao trees, nature's perfect trellis! We'll show you how each vanilla orchid is delicately hand-pollinated to produce long "hands" of vanilla beans. We'll then proceed to the "Slab" where the pods are 'cracked' before the fermentation process. Next we move into the greenhouse where flats of newly planted seedlings just beginning their journey grow alongside large screens filled with coffee and cacao beans slowly drying to perfection. Finally we'll move into our certified Chocolate Kitchen where the Magic happens! Who wants a taste? Free samples! Other things to note Refreshments (coffee/tea/water/juice) Tastings & Snacks Included Parents, please supervise young children at all times There are no stairs to navigate and the restroom is equipped with handrails Adults $75 + $3.75 tax=$78.75 Children $35 + $1.75=36.75
Polynesian Drum- and Firedancing class
We meet at Lydgate beach and I explain the instruments (drums) we're going to play. We start with simple beats and practice as long as everybody gets it. No worries if you never have been drumming before in your life. I also explain what the drums stand for in the community and how they were used in ancient hawaii. After one hour of drumming, we start practicing the firedancing. The boys with the samoan fireknife and the girls with the mauri poiballs. We practice without fire for a while and who ever wants to light it on fire, is very welcome to try it (no worries I'll help you). You can take nice pictures and videos while performing with fire. Other things to note And again, if you are beginners, never drum or played with fire in your entire life, don't worry, in my class are all levels of drummer and firedancer from 5 years to 70 years old!
Cow Cuddle Therapy
Our pasture is located in Hl Pepekeeo, about 20 minutes from Hilo. Our Cow Cuddle Therapy starts with a basic safety tutorial, and then we enter the paddock to meet the cows. After a brief introduction we will then: -Pet cows -Hug cows -Lay Down and Cuddle Cows! -Milk the cows -Learn all about cows, their milk, and how they benefit the garden and the environment! (Note: we are a sanctuary for cows we never sell or kill any bovines. We do milk cows, but only the excess milk the calves cant drink. We call this cruelty-free dairy! In the past we have had vegan guests that loved the experience, but also have had upset vegan guests, so this is just a full disclosure!)
Become a Farmer On a Native Hawaiian Organic Family Farm

You will learn some history of Hawaiian lands, plants and agriculture as you give back to the island and do something unique! Enter an ancient volcano on Hawaiian Homestead & learn Agriculture & History. Help shape & tend this family-owned organic chocolate farm of exotic trees, flowers, miniature horses, pygmy goats, & silky chicks. The farm always needs tending, from pulling weeds to planting, to watering plants or trimming trees. We need help to water over 1,000 plants by hand every other day. We will provide you with plenty of filtered water. Join us to work hard together and we will end with a tour of the farm. You will need transportation as Lyft and Uber don’t come here or charge a lot to do so, buses are not reliable and biking is impossible as the roads are too narrow. Our family farm is located in a Rainforest and we work rain or shine as it is still warm & comfortable. Wear beach shoes & old clothes or beachwear is fine, there are outdoor restrooms where you can wash up when the work is done. You will work at your own pace and can rest or take shade as you need. Please note that online maps take you just past our farm so look for the tall blue and white surfboards by the gates!
