Your guide to Lauderdale-by-the-Sea

All About Lauderdale-by-the-Sea

Located just north of Miami on Florida's western Caribbean waters, Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is a small coastal retreat known for its walkable beaches, oceanside amenities, colorful street signs, and mid-century modern architecture. Part of the greater Miami-Fort Lauderdale metropolitan area, this sand-swept and sun-kissed area provides the feeling of solitude without having to travel far to reach it.

Oceanfront public spaces like El Prado Park provide walking trails, picnic areas, and beach access while remaining close to the boutique shopping and seafood options available in the compact town center. In addition, snorkeling and scuba diving sites are available just offshore and are some of the most popular dive locations in Florida due to the abundance and diversity of marine life found in the shallow reef ecosystems. Lounging about the area's soft sandy beaches or exploring the wider metropolitan areas of Fort Lauderdale and Miami are all viable options from this welcoming beachside hamlet.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea

Central and southern Florida has warm and comfortable weather conditions throughout most of the year, with Lauderdale-by-the-Sea being no exception. The Greater Fort Lauderdale area is characterized by warm temperatures with gentle breezes, long balmy nights, and subtropical waters, making for excellent lounging and swimming weather. These conditions are present throughout all seasons, with only slight variations between the months. The most significant of which is a modest increase in rain during the latter half of summer.

The year-round favorable weather brings festivals and events throughout the year, with an art fair in October, a music fest in November, and a Brazilian festival in September being just a few of the area's more notable annual events. When searching for vacation rentals in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, any season will make for a fantastic trip, but planning around the seasonal events in the area is a good idea to make the most of the experience.

Top things to do in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea

Beach Pavilion

Perhaps one of the most iconic sites in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, the Beach Pavilion is a public waterside space with picnic areas, brightly colored pastel umbrellas, and lounge chairs that line the pavilion grounds and palm trees and blue paved walking paths. The centralized location of the Beach Pavilion makes it a great place to spend a day enjoying the beach and enjoying the local shops.

Anglin's Fishing Pier

This pier is the longest in South Florida and a popular fishing spot for those hoping for a chance at the cobia, sailfish, and Atlantic tarpon found in the surrounding waters. Adjacent cafés offering fresh seafood, cold drinks, and the occasional musical performance make for an excellent way to recover and end after a day of fishing.

Everglades and Francis S. Taylor Wildlife Management Area

About an hour inland from Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is one of Florida's most iconic ecosystems, the Everglades. Miles of elevated levees provide hiking and biking opportunities while searching for the areas Roseate Spoonbills and Wood Stork populations. While they are not commonly seen, Florida black bears and Florida panthers have also been known to reside in the area. Heading to the park's wild interior provides even more opportunities for wildlife viewing but will require an airboat to access.
