Set against the backdrop of Longs Peak and the soaring Rocky Mountains, Longmont straddles both Boulder and Weld counties along Colorado’s Front Range. Its proximity to both mountains and lakes, coupled with its numerous city parks, make Longmont a magnet for hikers, bikers, boaters, and kayakers, many of whom spend time away from the woods and waters sampling the city’s formidable craft brewing scene.

Downtown, you’ll discover a unique mix of contemporary and historic architecture in the Longmont Creative District. You can explore the city’s thriving arts community in various art galleries, book shops, music stores, and entertainment venues — and you’ll find more than 75 permanent artworks, including sculptures and murals, along the streets throughout the town.

Longmont is home to several parks, such as Blue Skies Park, Rough and Ready Park, and Stephen Day Park — all offering an abundance of recreational opportunities. The 735-acre Union Reservoir, also known as Calkin’s Lake, is a hub for paddleboarding, fishing, and swimming, and you’ll often see windsurfers gliding on the lake’s glassy surface. For a short hike with spectacular views, you can head to Rabbit Mountain, where a multi-use trail meanders through diverse terrain with vistas of hillside meadows, wildflowers, and the Front Range. In the winter, you can head back to this same area for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

Longmont experiences a temperate climate, with sunny days throughout most of the year. Half of the year boasts balmy temperatures optimal for water-based recreation or exploring the nearby peaks on foot, while fall and winter bring cooler temperatures and snow perfect for hitting the slopes on skis.

In May and September, the Firehouse Art Center hosts ArtsWalks, a cultural event series featuring booths from local artists, businesses, and nonprofits, with live music, food, and beverages from local breweries.

St. Vrain State Park

St. Vrain State Park encompasses 480 acres of recreational land and 300 acres of water. The park offers a variety of outdoor activities, including bird-watching, cycling, and fishing, with views of Longs Peak and the Rockies. You’ll find bass, catfish, and trout swimming in the lakes, while egrets, pelicans, and cormorants can be spotted wading along the shore.

City of Longmont Museum

The City of Longmont Museum, housed in a sleek, contemporary building, features a variety of permanent and changing exhibits covering 14,000 years of history in Longmont. Topics relate to art, culture, history, and science, with interactive programs for all ages.

Callahan House and Garden

The Callahan House is a historic Queen Anne-style Victorian home featuring an Italian-style garden around the property. The pristine grounds — open to the public if there isn’t a special event — feature vibrant flowers, lush lawns dotted with statues, a gazebo, and a lighted fountain.
