On the other hand, we really respect your privacy. . Our goal is that you have a great time visiting our home and the Los Angeles area. The guest suite is located in a single-family house 2 miles from the beach in Santa Monica. It's quiet but close to the best cafes, restaurants, and things to do. A local park is 3 blocks away, along with a public golf course and tennis courts. A 5 minute walk will take you to a bus #16 (to downtown Santa Monica/ beach/Marina del Rey) which hooks up to the metro to points beyond. Or, you can use our free bicycles! It's more convenient to have a car but the beach is only 3 miles away and there are buses and of course Uber!! Things to See and Do in Los Angeles Do you want fun in the sun?? --Bike to Venice Beach-Santa Monica Pier / Lunch “Back on the Beach” , a reasonably priced restaurant with tables right on the beach behind the Annenburg Community Beach Club on PCH. ---Have you ever tried stand up paddle board or kayak? Go the Marina del Rey if you want gentle water since it's in the channel and not the big, bad Pacific Ocean. --- If you are more adventurous drive up Pacific Coast Highway to the Malibu Pier. There's a great surf shop there that rents EVERYTHING and has a wide variety of group lessons. Try to make reservations in advance (Check Groupon for discounts) --- There is also a bike path that goes from Santa Monica south to Manhattan Beach..... lots of blondes playing volleyball and a great beach. It's about 30-60 minute drive depending on traffic. Do you like people watching? ---Abbott Kinney Blvd. is "happenin" everyday and night. Music, food, coffee shops, bars and expensive shopping. ---there are farmer's markets almost everyday of the week with 3 miles. Do you like the arts? ---There are two Getty Museums that are really fun to visit. The one on Pacific Coast Hwy in Pacific Palisades has ancient art/sculpture housed in an Italian villa that Hearst imported stone by stone! The modern Getty is in Westwood and has a phenomenal 360 view of LA, a decent cafe and interesting collections. For both these museums, you have to reserve PARKING.... or else do an uber. ---LA County Museum (near Hollywood and the LaBrea Tar Pits) has wonderful collections and traveling shows. From time to time they have jazz or salsa outside. ---Check out the schedule for the Hollywood Bowl and the Greek Theatre. If you check “GoldStar” you can sometimes get discounts. Do you want to see “downtown Los Angeles”? Take the bus to the metro all the way to downtown Hollywood or the Staples Center. I also like to wander around Olevero Street or the Grand Central Market. There are curated walking tours (haunted places in downtown LA for example.) World Class Dance, theatre, opera and symphonies at Disney Hall or the Dorothy Chandler . Do you like to eat? If you love Asian food....we can recommend many superb (and inexpensive) Vietnamese, Korean, Chinese etc. food. We've also put together a binder filled with the names of some of our favorite places to eat in Los angeles. There is nothing better than a picnic at the beach... the binder also have some recommendations for great take out places. Check out In-N-Out Burger. There are very few restaurants open after 10pm.... so if you think you'll want to eat late, do some research first. Road Trips? ---Palm Springs and Joshua Tree is about a 3 hour drive. Great mid century architecture. Indian Nation gambling and shows (Morongo). Take the Aerial Tramway to get out of the heat --- Santa Barbara is about a 2 hour drive …. great food, beaches, people watching. --- Catalina; you can take a 1 day trip by power catamaran to Avalon. Lots of snorkeling, kayak, camping and snazzy places to stay too.. Or... you can just hang out on the patio and work on your suntan!! Have fun!! Barbara and Art. ... check in flexible as long as I know when you'll be arriving.

Driving best times If you are driving in la- the best times to miss traffic are between 10-2pm then about 8:30pm onwards street are much clearer. the traffic flows mostly west in the mornings and east at night. so for example if you want to go to the beach (west) do not come back in the afternoon! the traffic will be at least an 1-2 hours. the best would be to stay there for dinner and return after of which you are looking at only a 20-30 mins trip. or go in the morning around 10 to miss traffic and head back no later than 2pm.

Parking/traffic at theme parks can be very bad If you're doing a day trip to disney, you can use uber/lyft to avoid traffic and wait times.

Restaurants are very busy weekend nights and brunch so try and make a reservation if you can. If you dont have a reservation, you can usually get a table at norah's on santa monica which is a joy as well as connie and ted's. i also like the hudson for brunch. the griddle always has a line so would try and go mid-week instead.

Your guide to Los Angeles

Introduction

Los Angeles is the ultimate insider's city, as first-time visitors quickly discover. The sprawl of strip malls and apartment buildings can seem anonymous and daunting until you consult friends or online guides who can direct you to the city’s electric cultural and artistic life. Los Angeles’s racial and ethnic diversity make it one of the most exciting culinary destinations in America, whether your appetite leads you to Korean, regional Mexican, or Persian food. One day may bring you to Venice Beach or the Santa Monica Pier for a stroll, and the next day on a strenuous hike in Topanga Canyon. Downtown Los Angeles’s art museums attract global attention for their forward-thinking collections. You can also spend several days walking — yes, walking — around Silver Lake or Beverly Hills, dipping into boutiques and stopping at cafes.

When is the best time to stay in a vacation rental in Los Angeles?

Idyllic weather is one of the reasons Los Angeles became the film industry capital, and you can count on heat and sun for most of the year when you’re on vacation here. There’s a reason so many Angelenos wear sunglasses and carry water bottles.

After a hazy month of June (the locals call it “June Gloom”), LA’s hot season lasts between July and late September, when the average daytime temperatures are in the 80s Fahrenheit. Spring and fall deliver weather that is slightly cooler, but still pleasant enough for short sleeves and light clothing. December through February is the rainy season, when the lows can dip into the 40s. Your consolation is seeing the city’s gold hills turn bright green.

What are the top things to do in Los Angeles?

Griffith Park

Los Angeles’s biggest park is more of a district, with more than 4,000 acres of trails, attractions, and serene picnic spots. You can wander around the famous Griffith Observatory, the backdrop to dozens of famous movie scenes, or bring your children to the historic Merry-Go-Round carousel. The western edge of the park includes several steep trails climbing to the Hollywood Sign.

Hollywood Walk of Fame

You’re more likely to see a celebrity at some vegan cafe in Silver Lake than here, but the frayed glamour of Hollywood and the Sunset Strip still exerts its charm. Check the schedule to see if the iconic TCL Chinese Theatre is offering tours and screenings, or wander along Hollywood Boulevard, looking down to see whose famous handprints are pressed into the concrete.

The Getty Center

Half of the reason people take the tram up to the Getty is for the museum’s art collections, which favor Greek and Roman statues and European paintings from the medieval era through the 19th century. The other is the setting: You can spend an hour or two meandering through the cultivated gardens, admiring a landscape that stretches to every horizon.
