Come with me to Te Matatini - the Olympics of Kapa Haka
For tourists and those unfamiliar with it, I'd describe 'Te Matatini' as the Olympics of Kapa Haka. It’s the pinnacle of Maori performing arts. You've probably heard of the 'Haka' which is a form of expression our professional sports teams have made global, like the All Blacks who perform it before they play rugby. Well, Haka is only one component of this unique and beautiful world we call Kapa Haka. Te Matatini only happens every 2 years and in 2023 it's happening at Eden Park in Auckland. I live across the road! I will be your friend on your and will recommend the best spots to eat, explain the crafts shops, and of course sit down with you to watch one of the groups perform. I'll help explain what the performance means and the different components to it. We might even be lucky to meet some of the performers and get an insight on the amount of effort and time and sacrfice they've made for that 20 minute performance. Plenty of my friends and family members will be performing and it would be an honour to help you understand why they all love it and do it. You will have to purchase a ticket to enter. Early bird tickets are $40.
Kindred Spirit- Maori Rock Carvings Tour
We take our guests to experience the beauty of a scenic sailing tour to the Māori Rock Carvings, one of the most extraordinary contemporary carvings in the world. Only viewable from the water, the likeness of Ngātoroirangi towers 14-meters above Lake Taupō. In the summer we offer trips at 10am, 1pm and a sunset cruise at 6.30pm. On Kindred Spirit you cruise in superior comfort with large deck space and a lounge under the main deck. We have a fridge and a freezer aboard as well as a high quality sound system. The boat has just been completely restored and is up to the newest standards, fully equipped for safety and enjoyment. The experienced skipper shares his knowledge about the history of the lake. You can give the crew a hand hoisting the sails and take a turn on the wheel or just snuggle under some blankets and enjoy the wide selection of drinks. With Dave as the skipper you get the most experienced sailing skipper on the lake as captain. For us it is all about passion. Dave grew up around boats and is sailing on Lake Taupo for over 20 years. For us you are not just a number, we want to share our passion with friends. Other things to note Sailing trips are subject to minimum numbers, lake and weather conditions. Please be at the boat at least 15min before departure time for check in. People failing to show up for check in will not be refunded.

Bar hopping in one of Auckalnd's coolest suburbs
Join me for a walk around one of Aotearoa New Zealand's coolest suburbs - Morningside/Kingsland. I’ll take you to three or four spots which are popular amongst locals. From craft bars, to cocktail spots to a bit of RnB. First off we will meet at my house for some small snacks (popular local chocolate, chips) and a New Zealand beverage where I can discuss sports, politics, our proud Māori culture and anything else you want to know about. Then we will head out for a walk and pop into some bars on the way. If you like it busy or quiet let me know. (the walk is approximately 2km in total and is up and down small hills, if you are unable to walk this please let me know and we can figure something out). Beers/Wine/Cocktails range from $10-20 (NZ Dollar). You can also purchase food at these spots. In the spirit of manaakitanga (care and hospitality), I can also help plan out the rest of your trip in our beautiful country and recommend other places to eat, party and explore during your stay in Auckland and Aotearoa New Zealand. Please note: I do this as a hobby! I'm a fulltime producer/reporter so if there isn't a time available to you please let me know and I will try my best to accommodate.
