Crabbing under the Golden Gate Bridge
We will meet at a pier in the Marina/Presidio district of San Francisco where we will be located near the Golden Gate Bridge. The views of the water will be spectacular and because of the size of the pier we will have more than enough room to spread out and try our techniques. Make sure to arrive early so you can find parking and pay for it if need be near The Warming Hut cafe. Once all the guests have arrived we will learn to set up the equipment we will supply with a very detailed explanation of how and why we use particular gear. Once we have set up our rods, filled our bait in our traps we will learn the different forms of casting and the technique of reeling. Because we are fishing for crab there is a different approach to how you catch crab off of a rod and reel. We will not be allowed to take home any Dungeness crab, unfortunately, because the Bay is a protected estuary. As a result we will be catching rock & red crab which are edible and delicious crabs to take home. This experience is an all weather endeavor so rain or shine we will make it happen. Please join me as many others have to see if spending an afternoon out on the waterfront of the bay, meeting new people and learning a skill is right for you! Great for big groups, corporate outings and team building exercises! Please inquire directly if you have 10+ people www.theartofcrabbing.com
Forage Edible Plants & Mushrooms
Find out what you can eat in the woods! We'll hike in the lovely Santa Cruz mountains where I'll guide you on a beautiful, quiet 1-2 mile walk in the unique coastal oak & redwood forest. Together we'll learn the ancient ways of identifying edible and medicinal mushrooms, plants, roots, flowers, nuts and seeds (depending on the season. Mushrooms come out after the rains and fruit through winter, sometimes into spring). Along the way we'll discuss proper harvesting and preparation techniques while connecting to the beauty and abundance of our ecosystem. This experience is a fun, hands-on way to connect to what can feed, heal and harm us in the wild. You'll walk away with a whole new appreciation and understanding of nature! The hike is doable for all skill levels. See you on the trail! Other things to note: Secure your own transportation to The Buttery and we'll caravan to the hike start. Bring: layers (it can get chilly in the redwoods), water bottle and comfortable hiking shoes. Optional: hiking poles, camera, hat, sunglasses. Japanese Spoon Carving
Japanese wood carving is rooted in personal wellness, relaxation, and an age-old meditative tradition of making with your hands. For me, it's the best way to express and channel my creative energy as a designer. I will teach you how to hand carve your own wooden spoon using traditional Japanese tools and techniques. The class will start with a slow breathing exercise that leads into a discussion of different wood types, an explanation of the tools required, and an overview of the techniques used to cut wood. Once you have a basic understanding, I will guide you through the process of carving the bowl of the spoon with the spoon gouge, then designing and whittling the handle and top of the spoon. When the final design has been reached, we will find zen in our creation. Other things to note Please wear closed-toe shoes, and clothes you don't mind getting dirty. We will be carving and making a beautiful mess! Class will be held outside in Oakland if weather permits, exact location sent out a few days before class.

The Art of Crabbing
(Dungeness season runs from Nov-June) The ORIGINAL crabbing experience in the Bay Area teaching The Art of Crabbing. This experience has been going since the start of Airbnb's experiences. We will meet at the Chit Chat Cafe located in Pacifica on the Pacifica pier on stable dry land (no boats). We'll provide insights on the nature of crabbing and fishing in the bay area, what crabs like to eat and why the bay is home to a large and distinctly diverse crab and shellfish population. Crabbing can be hit or miss so please understand this experience’s goal is to teach how to catch crab. The community around crabbing is unique in that people from all walks of life are there so prepare to meet new friendly folks! Once we arrive at the pier we'll provide a thorough overview of the equipment and tactics used in the Bay Area to catch crab. We will be going for Dungeness Crab, the best in the Bay. We will be using a combination of crab snares off the rod and reel as well as a crab trap. We'll share how this has been an actively growing hobby of locals in the area. This experience is great for team building experiences & corporate offsite outings. Please keep in mind that we will be standing for long periods of time while crabbing.. Please bring additional seating if you feel the need to have it for yourself. The goal is to learn a life skill by the end of the experience!
Sunrise Snowshoe Hike over Lake Tahoe
This guided sunrise snowshoe hike is the perfect activity to catch a sunrise over Lake Tahoe. Beginning on the west shore of Lake Tahoe, we begin under the stars at the first twinkle of light. Hiking from our cars we strap snowshoes to our boots and begin uphill through hidden walkways and trail networks under vast pine trees and cedars eventually gaining 300’ in elevation over a mile. Our goal is to reach an incredible view and what could be the best place to view sunrise in Lake Tahoe. As we hike the gentle morning twilight reveals Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada mountain vistas around us. Roughly 45 minutes of hiking get us to a panoramic view and the area in which we wait for the sun to rise. Waiting for sunrise the surrounding views of Lake Tahoe, the Sierra Crest, and mountain landscapes are viewed as ambient daylight increases around us. Breakfast-type pastries, hot water for tea, and coffee will also be provided. Once we get our fill of pastries, sunrise, and scenery we begin our snowshoe hike back down the mountain. This area is one of the best places to view a sunrise over Lake Tahoe due to its prominent point overlooking the center of the lake, allowing for breathtaking views in every direction.
Silent Disco Beach Yoga at Baker Beach

You can still hear the waves crashing through them :) It's more than a 'class'- its a yoga experience. Watching the waves, moving mindfully in nature, and practicing with locals and guests from around the world. We host classes all year long, as our winters here are mild and being on the beach is always SO beautiful! We so look forward to hosting you for this magical experience. Bring water, a sweatshirt and friends. Or come solo! We supply yoga towels and headphones. Exact meeting location is sent to you upon registration.

Create Ricotta, Tartines, and Cacio e Pepe
You will be greeted with some specialty non-alcoholic beverages, along with some affection from our three small rescue dogs. I will teach you how to make homemade ricotta cheese in a very simple way, and then how to use that ricotta to make tartines (rustic bread toasted and spread with Ricotta and topped with your choices of things -- we take them to a whole new level with at least 25 special ingredients I create just for you) and a quick and easy version of cacio e pepe (what I call a grown-ups mac n' cheese). You will learn what to do with the whey which is leftover from making cheese. We will even pick some herbs and edible flowers from my herb garden, and learn more about those as part of this experience. Then you will sit down to eat the creations you have made. You will leave with the recipes you need to easily recreate the ricotta at home, and a new skill to share with your family and friends. However, if you are simply lactose intolerant we CAN make this with lactose-free milk. Please let me know in advance. We have three small friendly dogs who are part of the welcoming committee. If you have a dog allergy or aversion, please understand this part of the experience cannot be changed.
