Just west of Panama City Beach on the Florida Panhandle, Seaside is a tiny village of serene white-sand beaches and emerald-colored waters. This Gulf Coast community lives up to the simplicity of its name: It’s a place of jewel-coloured ocean views and powder-soft sands reign, with plenty to discover by way of local charm. As you walk through the town you’ll happen upon vintage airstream restaurants, murals, and independent shops. Founded in 1979, Seaside came to be when a family of landowners purchased 80 acres near Seagrove Beach. Built with vacationers in mind, the streets were designed so that they all lead directly to the main attraction: Seaside’s incredible beach. Seaside is full of rental properties — but no two are exactly alike, so choosing your rental in Seaside is as fun as crafting your itinerary (full of sand, sun, and sea).

Seaside is pleasant to visit year-round. But if you’re looking for prime weather, travel in April or May, when temperatures are warm and before the summer busy season starts. In spring, the area buzzes with farmers’ markets, free concerts, and the South Walton Beaches Food & Wine Festival. While summer is hot and humid, there are plenty of options to help you cool off such as beach barbecues, Fourth of July celebrations, and the Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic. During the winter, experience over 200+ hiking trails, or unique gatherings like the 30A Songwriters Festival, or the Sandestin Gumbo Festival.

Seaside Farmers’ Market

Check out the many varieties of local produce, honey, soaps, and regional treats for sale at this bi-weekly market located at the Seaside Amphitheatre. If you’re traveling with your dog (or want to bring your pooch a souvenir) don’t forget to ask about the organic dog treats — they’re a must!

Grayton Beach State Park

A five-minute drive west on 30A, Grayton Beach State Park is a more rustic alternative to the sheen of Seaside. Hike among stands of magnolias and scrub oaks on a 9-mile loop trail and keep your eyes peeled for grey foxes, pelicans, and the occasional alligator. The park features a rare coastal dune lake, perfect for canoeing, kayaking, and fishing for bass, bream, and white-speckled trout. Be sure to pick up a short-term fishing license before dropping your line.

Hit the beach

When in Seaside, make sure you reserve plenty of time for sunbathing, lounging, and splashing in the waves. While the beach is the uncontested star here, there are plenty of ways to enjoy it. Reserve a sun lounger, charter a sailboat, rent a kayak, or zoom along on a bike. As long as you’ve got sea salt in your hair and sun on your skin, you’re doing things right here.
