Why locals recommend it

Pretty much the geographic center of the city, and one of the highest peaks in all of San Francisco. A lot of people drive up here for the view, but to truly appreciate it, run. Start on Market Street in the Castro and head west on 17th Street. Turn left on Clayton Street, and follow it to Twin Peaks Boulevard; take that to the top. It’s a killer workout, three hilly miles, but the views from the top are amazing.

The terrain of San Francisco is one of its best qualities, with an abundance of hills and various points to look out from. Among the best views are the ones you can get from the Twin Peaks. On this pair of peaks, you can really take in the breadth of unique beauty that comes from SF. Besides the view from the 922-foot high peaks, you can also enjoy the nature that is there.

At 922 feet in elevation, Twin Peaks is second only to Mt. Davidson in height, offers spectacular views of the Bay Area, and is a world-famous tourist attraction. Originally called “Los Pechos de la Choca” (Breasts of the Maiden) by early Spanish settlers, these two adjacent peaks provide postcard views and a treasure trove of animal and plant diversity. Most visitors to Twin Peaks drive (or take a tourist bus), walk or bike to the north peak parking lot to enjoy 180-degree views of the Bay Area. The best way to see this landscape is to hike the 0.7 mile trail network that ascend the two peaks, where you will also find 360-degree views that surpass those at the north peak overlook.

This is another great place to visit if you’re in for great photos, you can see the whole city from here, dress warm here because is usually very cold due to the elevation and occasionally fog.
