Hi, how are you? I'm Douglas Oliveira, a professional musician who has played and lived the culture of samba for more than 13 years. There have been in the last years for me many "samba circles" (rodas de samba), groups, performances in Brazil and abroad, studies and classes. Now I want to share a bit of my experience with you. And since one of the samba translations is a “party”, we will have a samba experience in a fun and practical way. You will: - Learn how to play the basics of the main samba instruments and experience a little of the traditional "samba circle" (roda de samba); -learn some of the history and curiosities of this beautiful and Brazilian cultural expression). The experience takes place at "Espaço Caminhante Music" in the neighborhood of Vila Madalena, where I teach cavaquinho (tiny guitar typical from Brazil), guitar and singing classes. We start by talking about this important Brazilian popular culture that is samba with a good coffee, beer, or juice. We'll talk about the history, curiosities, main composers and singers. Then we will begin the musical practice, learning how to play some of the Samba instruments, and we will play together as it is made in the "samba circles"!
