Come with me to Te Matatini - the Olympics of Kapa Haka
For tourists and those unfamiliar with it, I'd describe 'Te Matatini' as the Olympics of Kapa Haka. It’s the pinnacle of Maori performing arts. You've probably heard of the 'Haka' which is a form of expression our professional sports teams have made global, like the All Blacks who perform it before they play rugby. Well, Haka is only one component of this unique and beautiful world we call Kapa Haka. Te Matatini only happens every 2 years and in 2023 it's happening at Eden Park in Auckland. I live across the road! I will be your friend on your and will recommend the best spots to eat, explain the crafts shops, and of course sit down with you to watch one of the groups perform. I'll help explain what the performance means and the different components to it. We might even be lucky to meet some of the performers and get an insight on the amount of effort and time and sacrfice they've made for that 20 minute performance. Plenty of my friends and family members will be performing and it would be an honour to help you understand why they all love it and do it. You will have to purchase a ticket to enter. Early bird tickets are $40.
Kindred Spirit- Maori Rock Carvings Tour
We take our guests to experience the beauty of a scenic sailing tour to the Māori Rock Carvings, one of the most extraordinary contemporary carvings in the world. Only viewable from the water, the likeness of Ngātoroirangi towers 14-meters above Lake Taupō. In the summer we offer trips at 10am, 1pm and a sunset cruise at 6.30pm. On Kindred Spirit you cruise in superior comfort with large deck space and a lounge under the main deck. We have a fridge and a freezer aboard as well as a high quality sound system. The boat has just been completely restored and is up to the newest standards, fully equipped for safety and enjoyment. The experienced skipper shares his knowledge about the history of the lake. You can give the crew a hand hoisting the sails and take a turn on the wheel or just snuggle under some blankets and enjoy the wide selection of drinks. With Dave as the skipper you get the most experienced sailing skipper on the lake as captain. For us it is all about passion. Dave grew up around boats and is sailing on Lake Taupo for over 20 years. For us you are not just a number, we want to share our passion with friends. Other things to note Sailing trips are subject to minimum numbers, lake and weather conditions. Please be at the boat at least 15min before departure time for check in. People failing to show up for check in will not be refunded.
Off the beaten track in Auckland
My love of Auckland's short hikes and my Indian heritage are combined to create this experience. Head out west with me to discover a couple of Auckland's beautiful black sand beaches, then back into town to watch the sunset from a volcano and an Indian dinner. From your pick-up location, I will take you to Anawhata beach, perhaps one of Auckland's best kept secret beaches, as you cannot drive to it. A 20-30 minute walk down a well formed track brings us to the beach, where we will have chai and samosa to fuel us on our return back to the top. From Anawhata it is a 40 minute drive through the beautiful Waitakere bush to Piha beach where will do a short steep climb (around 10-15 minutes) up the famous Lion Rock to marvel at the views. After our visit to Piha, we will head back to town to see the sunset over the city from the top of Mt Eden volcano (don't worry it is dormant!). It is around 20-30 minutes to walk to the top. After sunset we will go to Auckland's tasty Indian area for a delicious dinner. Dinner is included and will be a tapas style shared dinner. Transport is included in my car. Then I will drop you off to your door step, where the tour will end. Other things to note: We are walking at a very relaxed pace, there is no pressure on you to walk fast or hurry up. I am happy just cruising along and will be there to support you.
Piha Expedition
The aim of this adventure is to promote health and wellbeing through a fun experience exploring nature. We start the day at our meeting place cafe where we will play some icebreaker games to get to know each other. Then we enjoy scenic transport in our Mercedes tour bus travelling through the Waitakere ranges to Piha, stopping at a lookout along the way. Snacks and warm up stretches on arrival at South Piha. This adventure consists of four very different walks in different areas of Piha ranging from 20 minutes to 1.5 hours to really get you familiar with the best spots you'd miss otherwise. Explore the many lookouts, caves, cliffs tunnels, native forest, rivers, hidden tracks, and waterfalls over the 7 hours. Listen to the Tui's and watch the colourful Rosellas in the forest, then discover Little Blue Penguins deep in the caves. If we are lucky we will spot a Seal or Sea Lion! Professionally guided by your passionate, qualified and safety conscious tour guide. This is the only way to get the most out of your visit to the wild Piha beach! Full transport between all locations, Healthy snacks, fresh fruit and cold water are included. Up to 10km total walking split up throughout the day. Some of which is Barefoot optional. The black sand can be hot during summer! Bring beach shoes if you have them. Meeting place: 149 Point Chevalier road, Point Chevalier
Bar hopping in one of Auckalnd's coolest suburbs
Join me for a walk around one of Aotearoa New Zealand's coolest suburbs - Morningside/Kingsland. I’ll take you to four spots which are popular amongst locals. From craft bars, to cocktail spots to a bit of RnB. First off we will meet at my house for some nibbles and a New Zealand beverage where I can discuss sports, politics, our proud Māori culture and anything else you want to know about. Then we will head out for a walk and pop into some bars on the way. If you like it busy or quiet let me know. (the walk is approximately 2km in total and is up and down small hills, if you are unable to walk this please let me know and we can figure something out). Beers/Wine/Cocktails range from $10-20 (NZ Dollar). You can also purchase food at these spots. In the spirit of manaakitanga (care and hospitality), I can also help plan out the rest of your trip in our beautiful country and recommend other places to eat, party and explore during your stay in Auckland and Aotearoa New Zealand. Please note: I do this as a hobby! I'm a fulltime producer/reporter so if there isn't a time available to you please let me know and I will try my best to accommodate.

See Auckland's Secret Glow Worms
This is a unique experience to go visit and hang out with and learn about real life glow worms without even leaving the city. We go in small groups of no more than 5, we are very careful where we tread and what we touch, it’s an intimate and special experience every time. We’ve been tracking and monitoring thriving colonies of bush glow worms and we are pleased to report they are lighting up like the stars and glowing bright! The atmosphere is pretty electric in there as we walk past and hear runninthousands of sparkling glow worms! You’ll hear the story of the Titiwai or the New Zealand Glow worm. The luminescent larval is endemic to these shores, so it's a one off for most. The local bush reserves remain a secret, phones are turned off, and you may asked to wear a blindfold. These are exceptionally sensitive areas. Thanks for your help preserving this. The experience is an easy flat bush walk, you will not be on a boat or in a cave. Other things to note These are short night time bush walks, there is no rafting or boating. Cell phones are to be turned off. Your guide will carry a torch but we use only the red light. No locations are to be recorded. Please feel free to tip your guide. We will not be offended!
