This reservoir is one of the Ozarks’ don't-miss gems. Formed by a dam across the White River, Beaver Lake’s crystal-clear waters are encircled by nearly 500 miles of shoreline, providing ample opportunities for experiencing some of Arkansas’ most scenic and fun spots. Rimmed with lakeside caves, limestone bluffs, and boat launches, this is the perfect spot for outdoor enthusiasts looking to unplug for an endlessly active weekend. Beaver Lake is more than just a pretty postcard: Beneath its surface, scuba divers can explore its crystal waters. Weekenders skim the water on pontoon boats, catamarans, and stand-up paddleboards, while anglers come from across the state to cast a line for bass and trout. On land, hikers trek along miles of trails or spread out a blanket for a leisurely picnic overlooking the Ozarks. Weekenders pitch tents for immersive camping experiences, or stay in one of the area’s cabins, but even a quick day trip is worth the drive.

With its temperate climate, Beaver Lake is the perfect anytime destination, whether you are traveling solo or with a group. That said, it's even more splendid to visit from the beginning of April through the end of October. Take in the view of the hillsides coated in redbud, serviceberry, and dogwood blossoms during the springtime. The summer heat may not agree with some, but it makes for fantastic water-activity weather. Fall is the best hiking season, offering mild temperatures and foliage that creates a fiery spectacle on the mountainsides. Winter is too chilly for most water sports, but is the best time for fishing and spotting bald eagles.

War Eagle Cavern

Beaver Lake is home to Arkansas' only lakeside cavern, War Eagle Cavern. Explore this massive, easily accessible underground cave on a guided tour to learn about its mesmerizing geological formations, such as gem-studded domes and spiky stalagmites. For a dose of adrenaline, opt for the Wild Tour, which will have you scrambling through the cave's internal passages. Keep an eye out for the resident bats and salamanders.

Van Winkle Hollow

While there's no shortage of water activities on offer at Beaver Lake, kayaking is one of its most user-friendly and scenic options. The Van Winkle Hollow arm of Beaver Lake is a great spot to paddle in calm waters that meander for three miles through a lush conservation zone. Drift downstream and watch for shorebirds, deer, and catfish, or just admire the tranquil scenery.

Inspiration Point

On the northeast end of Beaver Lake, Inspiration Point lives up to its name. From the top of this 550-foot cliff, panoramic views stretch out across a verdant valley where the White River cuts through thick vegetation. It's a perfect spot to watch the sunset over the west, and is a perennial nesting habitat for bald eagles, so bring your binoculars.
