Whisky and Folklore
We meet on the iconic Royal Mile by the eminent Scottish thinker and drinker Adam Smith. It is then a short walk to one excellent whisky bar that we use. We have the entire upstairs area reserved for us, ensuring lots of space for the group. During the course of two hours we will sample four outstanding Single Malt Scotch Whiskies from the four major whisky producing regions of Scotland. We will discus some of the history of Scotland and explore the reasons as to why whisky is now so ingrained as a staple of Scottish culture and we have some great tales from Scotland and the world of whisky to share with you. Other things to note This tour departs promptly and we can not wait for guests who are late. You must meet us at our start point at least 15min before the tour departs to secure your space. People under the age of 18 are not permitted on this tour. This is due to licencing at the venue we use.
Underground Beer Tasting
We'll start off with our 1st beer and a tour of our building, a 16th Century prison and courthouse. We have some original features untouched for hundreds of years. We'll make our way down to the hidden vaults under our building, where you'll try a selection of 4 other local beers in the most hidden tasting room in Edinburgh! Along with learning about the beers from an expert guide and the history of brewing in Edinburgh, participants will get to see the secret rooms hidden in the old prison, as well as stories of prisoners who were held here, the dark and grimy history of Auld Reekie, and how beer shaped the way we live our lives today. Other things to note Please be aware that the vault is accessed via about 20 steps- there is no lift/ramp access to the lower level. Check-in with reception staff at The Hostel above
Meet the Hairies Highland Cows and Calves
Guests will be inspired by learning of the history and character of the Highland breed in the surroundings of the self-built Roundhouse. Then we will walk to the purpose built Meeting Barn (shared between humans and animals as in days past). We gather in the atrium of tall larch logs around the central hearth sharing stories about our animals, as our ancestors did in the forests of this land. You will meet the animals that are being hand reared and taught to walk for the shows and spectacles for which pedigree Highlanders go through their paces. You will be introduced to Baby and Boy -giant sweet-natured bullocks who adore being fed and talked to. Next, (weather permitting!;-)) you will see the main herd of breeding mothers with their babies -(the nearest thing to real-life teddy bears!)- and Dougie the timid, affectionate bull. Afterwards you can explore the pastures where the animals roam at large. At the end of the tour you are free to wander the farm under your own steam, or enjoy stunning walks in the immediate vicinity with magnificent photographic opportunities. For those wanting to deepen their understanding of the Highlanders, on-farm accommodation is available on Airbnb Crofthouse at the Roundhouse (sleeping up to 8) or Hairy Cow Studio (cosy for 1-2 people). It is not possible to supervise one-on-one contact with the animals; for this check out 'Hug a Hairy' :-)

Harry Potter, Haggis & Horrible Histories
Do you want an all-round, INTERACTIVE city tour full of local history, castle viewpoints and Scottish cuisine? Then this tour is for you! After three years of my 5-star tour, Harry Potter, Haggis & City Sunsets, I have launched this new experience to bring together my biggest passions in dark history, Harry Potter, and Scottish cuisine, all the while making you laugh. Meeting at the National Library of Scotland we will start the experience by discussing how J K Rowling began her journey in creating Harry Potter and how she was inspired to create Diagon Alley. We will then find ourselves in the heart of the old town, where we will explore the gruesome history of public executions, find one of the most incredible viewpoints of Edinburgh Castle and navigate around arguably the most haunted graveyard in the UK, Greyfriars Kirkyard. Throughout the experience you will also learn more about J K Rowling’s life, exploring two cafes where she spent her time writing the books. Hear the tale of Greyfriars Bobby, in the same graveyard which inspired J K Rowling’s three leading characters in the ever-popular Harry Potter series. Amongst all the fun, don’t forget deep fried mars bar and haggis ;) (recommended but not included)! It would be a pleasure to host you soon, happy travelling :) Insta - @robcarrtours
Hug a Hairy
We will meet you at the gate and introduce you to special animals who are trained for showing and becoming accustomed to interaction with humans. You will be introduced to the individual animal, taught the best method to approach and reassure and then to comb and caress. Once you have gained the confidence of the animal you will be shown how to approach with sensitivity but authority (a quality we have been taught to distrust in our culture). When you have earned the trust of the animal, you are invited to share moments of heart to heart warmth: the Hairy Hug - the very same way that the Highlanders express affection between themselves! Weather permitting we will then meet the main herd, observing the special herd bond that you now share. This gives you a chance to stretch your legs and see a bit more of the farm and the beautiful landscape. The Experience of making close contact with this proud but affectionate breed of animals will remain with you for a long time, and also equip you with entry-level understanding of how to establish an understanding with another species.
Beverley Minster Roof Tour Experience
Your two volunteer guides will meet you inside the Minster close to the Highgate door. Over the hour and a half, they'll introduce you to the characters in history responsible for the building of such an iconic and impressive Medieval minster. After a short walk around the ground floor, you'll be guided up a narrow, spiral stone staircase into the roof of the building. There you'll discover the incredible feats of engineering from almost a thousand years ago that hold this building together, the hidden wall in the roof, a giant hamster wheel that helps to reveal a hole in the church ceiling where you can peer down 70 feet to the ground floor. You discover what brought thousands of pilgrims to this church from 700AD onwards and through this church and its own intimate history, you'll also learn about the history of England.
