Chinese Steamed Bun Masterclass
Join us for Steamed Bun Masterclass hosted by Sophia in downtown Vancouver’s False Creek neighbourhood. The workshop will take place in Sophia’s studio kitchen. During this class, we’ll learn how to make traditional Chinese steamed buns. We'll work together to make the dough, roll the wrappers, and make the fillings from scratch. You'll learn how to steam the buns with a traditional bamboo steamer or pan-fry them for crispy buns! My techniques are learnt and passed down from my family in China and Taiwan. In Taipei, I apprenticed at “Zhu Ji 朱記” a restaurant known for Northern-style pastries, noodles, pancakes, and dumplings. Steamed buns are a perfect example of humble ingredients that are transformed into delicious morsels with effort and time. Food is a love language in Asia and seriously, the best vehicle to bring people together.  You’ll learn how to “read” the dough, and work with different wrapping methods (rabbit-shaped buns!). We'll wrap the workshop with a meal where you’ll be able to enjoy the buns of your labour — served with a housemade garlic dipping sauce. ON THE MENU Complimentary Snacks Pork &Tomato Steamed Buns Seasonal Veggie Dish Pickled Garlic Dipping Sauce Dessert - Seasonal Fruit Speciality Chinese/Asian teas, water *The address will be sent to you after check-out. * Vegetarian options are available, please message in advance.
Chinatown History & Dumpling Masterclass
Traditional Chinese dumplings with a gourmet twist! We’ll learn how to make authentic Chinese dumplings with Judy, from Historical Chinatown Tours. First, Judy will give you a 45-min sneak peak of historical Chinatown and then we'll spend 2 hrs learning how to prep, make, and eat dumplings. This will be a hands-on experience. We'll discuss what makes a good filling, prep the ingredients, fold the wrappers, cook the dumplings, and we’ll eat them. By the end of the 3-hour experience, you’ll be an expert! Craft Beer Revolution & Tasting Tour
Vancouver has a huge craft beer scene and is considered the best in Canada! Join me on a neighbourhood culture crawl among Vancouver's most interesting local breweries. Learn about the craft beer movement and the culture that surrounds it while enjoying beer tastings only available in Vancouver. We'll start with unique access to a historic local brewery to see, smell, taste and learn the basics of 4 seemingly simple ingredients that create over 100+ distinct styles of beer in the world. We'll enjoy a hand crafted beer recipe that is exactly what beer tasted like centuries ago. As we enjoy a light walk downhill to visit 2 other very different breweries in the neighbourhood, I'll explain how the craft beer subculture was recently revived and why it's quickly gaining in popularity. Our beer tastings will include stories of popular American craft beers styles of today - many of the beers we taste are small batch, meaning they're only available in the breweries we visit. No doubt we'll likely get into some healthy banter over which ones are the best. Whether you’re brand new craft beer or a veteran, you’re sure to enjoy these very local and very tasty beverages and meeting the people who make it.
Sailing Adventures in Howe Sound Fjord
Prepare yourself for an adventure that balances the thrill of sailing Howe Sound's legendary winds with the breathtaking views of the Coastal and Tantalus mountain ranges. We will depart from the docks in Squamish (about 40 minutes north of Vancouver on the highway to Whistler) and raise the sails as we pass beneath the legendary Stawamus Chief granite monolith and Shannon Falls. Regardless of expertise or ability, you will learn about sailing and experience unbounded excitement as the wind fills our sails and accelerates our 40' sailboat across the waters of Canada's southernmost fjord. Take a turn at the helm or grind a winch to trim sails - the more involved you become, the more fun you will have. A dance of colourful kites await as we tack offshore in the afternoon's inflow winds. The same topographic phenomenon that makes the area perfect for sailing attracts kiteboarders from around the world. We will explore the northern section of the Howe Sound fjord and promise many photo opportunities that will stand amongst the highlights of your trip. With a little luck, we may even sight a pod of dolphins or Orcas! Welcome aboard - let's have some fun. Other things to note We respect our oceans and try to minimize our environmental impact. Please choose aluminum containers for beverages instead of plastic or glass, and avoid the use of plastic bags and plastic wrap. Tx!
