The refuge encompasses 8,000 acres of trails for hiking and biking and includes a boardwalk that overlooks the Atlantic Ocean, popular for observing turtles, dolphins, and whales.

Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art

Thirty minutes north of Sandbridge Beach is the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art, featuring exhibitions (painting, photography, video) from regional and national artists. The museum hosts an array of events and programs throughout the year, providing opportunities to interact with artists, take classes, and engage in fun hands-on activities.

Lotus Garden Park

On the south side of Sandridge Road, Lotus Garden Park offers extensive stretches of preserved Native American lotuses. There are two kayak launches at Lotus Green Park, allowing kayakers to access Ashville Bridge Creek, North Bay, and Muddy Creek. The Lotus Garden Loop features beautiful scenery and an idyllic spot for a relaxing paddle through the water.
